Terry Carter, Interim Senior Pastor
Dr. Terry Carter is the Interim Senior Pastor at Trinity Baptist Church.
Dr. Carter was born in Goldsmith, Texas and graduated from Odessa High School. He earned his B.A. in Bible from Howard Payne University and his MDIV and PhD in Church History from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.
“I was called to the ministry in 1967 and have never doubted that calling. I have over 50 years of preaching, teaching, and missions since then,” Dr. Carter said, recalling how he got started in ministry. “All ministry is about people. I enjoy meeting and getting to know members of the church. I also love exegeting a text, developing a sermon which will communicate and feed the congregation, and delivering that message in a preaching event.”
In addition to working at Trinity Baptist Church, Dr. Carter is also a professor at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
“I have spent most of my career as a Professor at Ouachita Baptist University. I am a teacher at heart but spent 7 years on the mission field in Germany pastoring a church. One of the joys of my move to Arkansas was that God opened doors for me to stay connected to churches and to preach via Interim Pastor roles. I have served as the interim of nearly 30 churches since coming to Arkansas,” Dr. Carter said.
In his spare time, Dr. Carter loves traveling the world with his wife, spending time with his grandchildren, and playing golf when weather allows.
He has been married to his wife, Kathy, for 50 years.
“Kathy is very gifted. She is a teacher at heart, but more than that, she has a servant heart,” Dr. Carter said. “She is very involved in several organizations, but mostly Rotary, where she has served as District Governor and is now on Zone Committees.”
Dr. Carter and Kathy have a daughter and son-in-law, Tilly and Brent, and three beautiful, intelligent, and wonderful grandchildren.
