Red River Fellowship of Christian Athletes (RRFCA)
Red River Fellowship of Christian Athletes (RRFCA) is a community working to see the world transformed by Jesus Christ through the influence of coaches and athletes. The organizations includes counties in Northeast Texas and South Arkansas. Their mission is to make disciples through engaging, equipping and empowering coaches and athletes to know and grow in Christ and lead others to do the same.
Campus ministry is at the heart of RRFCA. Student led huddle meetings that can take place any time students deem appropriate are core to how the organization operates. Everyone in the student body is welcome in the huddle.
Outreach events are also a large part of how RRFCA reaches students. Every year in the fall, FCA students invite, pray for, share with, and challenge their peers to read the Bible and follow Jesus Christ at Fields of Faith, an event held on an area athletic field.
The organization also hosts an All-Star Showdown event each summer, where area high school athletes are drafted from multiple schools to play in football, basketball, and baseball games. The event was created to bring glory to God, bring recognition to the work of FCA in the Red River region, and to highlight the talent of coaches and athletes in Texas and Arkansas. In 2023, over 250 athletes played in the event and 41 decisions were made to follow Christ.
Meet the Area Director
Eric Akin is the area director for RRFCA. Along with a team of 3 others (Alan Thompson, Melissa Motes, and Lindsey Mcdowell), he who goes into area schools and works one-on-one with coaches and student athletes to make disciples, equipping and powering to know and grow closer with Christ.
After spending 12 years as a youth pastor and four years as a senior pastor, Eric and his wife Angie felt compelled to shift the focus of their ministry outside the walls of the church. Since answering the call to service with FCA in 2011, Eric hasn’t looked back.
Reaching 150 School Campuses Across Northeast Texas and South Arkansas
RRFCA reaches students on 150 school campuses across Northeast Texas and South Arkansas. As the 2023-2024 school year gets started this month, you can pray for the organization in the following ways:
1. Pray God sends students who do not yet know Him to learn more about Him and find hope at Fields of Faith.
2. Pray coaches and athletes come to Christ or continue to grow in their faith.
3. Pray the organization continues to be blessed financially and God continues to bless them with the resources needed to meet their needs.
